A contract is a contract wait it out and you pay nothing. If you want the freedom of switching, pay by the minute and buy your phone up front.
Dumb Article.

I've been thinking about leaving Verizon, this just confirms my decision. I pay $110 a month for my Blackberry, I'll give that money to someone else.

VZ must be losing money badly. They are forcing people to stay with them. A lot of people are running over to AT&T for the iPhone- and they must be pissed.

Everyone yells no regulation....well you see what happens Corporations are allowed to run a muck. Do yourself a favor...stay away from Verizon Fios! I just went back to Comcast for my cable service after having Verizon Fios for only 3 months.

This needs to be stopped. I thought they lost a class action suite against this kind of thing a few years ago because it was illegal. Looks like we need a tea party against verizon and the like. In these times and they want to pull this crap....Shame on them...

I would love to see a class action suit brought against Verizon.
After I was let go from one of my jobs I no longer needed
my Blackberry. Verizon refused to let me out of paying
the $29 monthly fee even though I no longer needed internet capability.
I would have to buy a new phone and extend my contract with them, which I did not want to do.
I think their fees lock up fees must be illegal and a suit should be
brought against them to test it. We should not have to pay for what
we can't use and can not escape from because of their lock up fees.

Sprint is no better. 3 months left to go and was charged $175.00 for early termination.

I am soooo glad I ditched Verizon years ago. I pay by the minute now and spend about $80 a year on mobile service. The terms of these contacts are not a secret so people know very well what they are getting punked into by these Verizon goons.

Well, This little story just cost them an account. They have been trying to get me to renew my contract for the last six months. They are over priced anyway. So, does anyone know anthing about cricket or t-moble? Forget at&t. Got rid of them along time ago!

"Responsible" they call themselves like all the other corporate pigs out there, All they want to be "Responsible" to is their fat ass lazy good for ZERO stockholders. It might be stockholder money thats invested in big companies but as far as contributing to the finished product, they are absolutely worthless dead meat.

OMG! What is this? Kick the working man in the ding-ding week or something? First the government is taking more of our money in taxes, now Verizon wants to screw us too? Why would a company like Verizon, that's currently on top of the wireless market consider something like this. I would suggest cancelling now to avoid the increase and move over to AT&T... They have cooler phones anyway!

Come on Verizon, WTF?

If you sign a contract you should know what you are getting into. I have had Verizon for 5 year's and debated on switching. There is a gimmick from one company to another. Everyone wants a contract, that is just the way the world works. I do not mind it being I have no plans to opt out early!! Read the fine print and all is well!!

1. Buy only a 1 year contract. Pay the extra 20 - 50 dollars for that new phone. A study has been done that concluded that business cell phones on the average last 1 yr. Why are 98% of the contracts all the cell phone companies sell are for 2 Yrs. They want you to buy a new phone at full retail! - Never, Ever - pay full retail at the phone store!

3. Worst case if you have circumstances that you need to cancel your contract, don't go to a store. Cut out the middle man which is the store. When you are attempting to make those changes call the cell company direct. In lots of cases they will have more authority to make changes and comps’ than the store. Also Always, Always In any transaction with cell phone companies only use the company stores or official company websites. Authorized resellers can mislead you and overcharge you for everything especially on accessories.

4. Finally All of the cell phone stores and phone reps will want to be your best bud. But they are not and don't let down your guard and by things you don't need.

5. Additionally, for what it is worth in my experience. Sprint seems to have the best customer Service. However, Verizon seems to have the best coverage. Don't waste your time with any of the others.

Happy Cell Phone buying. :-)

Make Verison sign your contract! Never mind, just bend over and keep grabbing your ankles for big corporation. Its not competition when they all follow this path of greed.

Only a mass cellphone customer protest can wake up Cellphone Corporate America and get them to stop being so hard-line against their own customers. There's only one language the Corporates understand: PROFIT$---IF WE dry up their $$$$, sure--they cut our cellphones off....but THEY TOO lunge DEEP into PANIC over lost profit$; it's a Mexican Standoff I think WE would win....and win BIG.

I'd say speak to your elected officials in D.C.---but THEY are cellphone STOCKHOLDERS, who surely don't mind the juicy stock return checks cut to them AND the contract politics these cellphone corporates PRESS US INTO to rake in those sweet profit$.

When are we together as a society going to stand up to these azzholes????

We switched from Sprint to AT&T Go phone. We are saving about $100 per month........

Better Service, no worry about added fees or calls.....

We love it...............

And we can use most of the phones they offer - just pay full price....
