Wow, had studied his work in grad school, and still have my copy of The Raw and the Cooked. RIP, Dr. Levi-Strauss! What a long and successful life!
i wish my parent would have known about Levi-Strauss. then, maybe i wouldn't have had to wear Sears Toughskins jeans.
Can you believe the six comments from Harvard Law on this topic?
You call going to Harvard and education?
Four blue jeans comments from Ivy League grads, one comment from someone who actually learned something in college (YVETTE probably went to school other than Harvard), and one Right Wing whacko who calls the French scholar, whose work was so revered it IS the standard in its field, a piece of s*** while celebrating his death in the name of the 2nd Amendment (right to bear arms) of the US Constitution.
Now that last guy must think France is in Idaho, somewhere. And since Sr308Sniper doesn't have the balls to make his Yahoo Buzz activities public, as if he is ashamed of himself or just down right frghtened (like all Republicans), we really can't tell.

French Anthropologist Levi Strauss story was very, very informative. Please give us more in-depth about such famous scientists and their contributions to our own culture. I'd really like to know more about him, too. Thanks.
too bad his sons continue to screw America. They move their manufacturing out of the US to make more money, however the product has not been the same since, yet they continue to charge the same price. TOO bad!
wow... another jewish anthropologist trying to convince everyone that "all men are created equal"...
Apparel companies that manufacture jeans will come and go, but Levis jeans will always remain a staple in American apparel. It was born out of the era when quality and workmanships really was Paramount in clothing and in manufacturing. Dam!!! ;) I love me some pair of Levis the button down 501’s style and the honeys love seeing me in then too lolzz. :) Big ups to you Claude Levi-Strauss, rest in peace.

It's amazing: Claude had nothing to do with blue jeans, except a possible distant familial link with Levi. I guess people are just plain ignorant.
I had the pleasure of reading several of Claude's books as an Anthropology student in the 70's, along with a short unpublished essay by Margaret Mead, who we lost in 1979, praising his body of work and noting how he had influenced her. (At the time my professor was a former student of Mead's, so we had access to a large amount of her unpublished work).
RIP Claude. May your work continue on for many generations to come. I will be sure to say Kaddish for you this Shabbat.
I read some of his work years ago. He was kind of a cool guy. Sad he's gone, but then he had a long life. You did well, Claude.
Anthropology - The study of men and their habitat, existence, how we coexist. A life of 100-years, an intellectual mind that furthered what we know about past human existence and how we became the schmucks we are today. RIP Dr. Levi-Strauss and thank you for your work.
At what hour did this cat croak? At some point, my waterheater burst, causing the apartment to rumble & my levis split down the middle! Trippy!
Claude-Levi-Strauss was a great critic.I was shocked to read the news of his sad demise. He was a trend setter anthropologist .His views about structure and deconstruction can never be forgotten. He is immortal. He will live for ever in the hearts of scholars and students of literature. His work on anthropology gave positive awareness .Durin (2004-2006),I was dean of arts in G.C.University Faisalabad,I worked as dean of arts.I thoroughly studied his life and works .My student and myself got much inspiration from his everlasting work on linguistics and anthropology.May his soul rest in peace in heaven.People of this hig quality are rare.
